Shirley Bassey, David Bowie, Judy Collins, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Nana Mouskouri, to name but a few. Ex-Walker Brother, Scott (Engel) Walker, was a particular champion, waxing an entire album of J.B.’s jewels in 1981, while latter-day admirers include the Divine Comedy’s Neil Hannon and former Soft Cell frontman, Marc Almond. The likes of Marianne Faithfull and Nina Simone were among the earliest devotees, performing Brel’s work in French.” (John Tracy)
